Cork City Walking Tour for School Groups

Suited to Transition Year or 5th year Home Economics Students. 

For Home Economics Students –  the focus is on one of the Leaving Cert  Assignments each year, with a visit to the English Market to investigate the foods of the local producers. Brief organized by Home Economics Teacher and allow for research by students on the day, so car write up the designated assignment. This can also be completed in Transition year as part of a Home Economics course. This tour takes place by arrangement in the mornings only. 

For Transition Year Students a walking tour bringing the rich history of Cork city as trading capital to life. Includes visits to a heritage site and worksheet to complete. Focus on History of Cork or Food as requested. 

Other School Groups – Tours adapted to the needs of the student group from older language students who want to explore Cork city or primary school groups who want to visit Cork City. 

Teachers need to accompany students on all tours to maintain discipline.

Worksheet per student given on each tour to complete on return to school.

Tours take place from 9.15 am to 12.45am with a tour lasting 90 minutes

Under the fun and insightful guidance of local food expert, chef, home economics teacher and native Irish-speaker, Maire Ní Mhurchu, learn about Cork’s food heritage and how it has developed over the past 300 years. During a walking tour of this maritime city, you will visit the Crawford Art Gallery as well as the Butter Museum where you will learn the history of Irish Butter, known as “yellow gold”.

Finish the tour with a stop at the iconic English Market. Meet some of the key traders while collecting samples of delicious local cheeses, fish, bread and treats into a food box for 2 people  

Take away a picnic box of 3 local cheese, bread, samples of fish,  tradional spiced beef, olives, cake for a picnic. Get the real flavour of Cork city
