Learn the ancient skill of stonecarving with a master craftsman in West Cork. Spend time with an experienced stone carver who is highly skilled in the traditional mallet and chisel methods which have been relied on by stone-cutters for centuries. Stone-carving courses are held throughout the year, and they are tailored to the skills and needs of the people who sign up to attend.
Courses are held over weekends in West Cork on demand. During a 2 day weekend course in Stone Carving which is aimed at beginners who would like to develop stone-carving skills for use on a range or projects. You will be introduced to the use of stone moulds, the use and care of key tools, as well as to some of the key techniques which form the foundation for a stonemason’s craft. We can advise on accommodation in the area.
Price €325 for a 2-day weekend course
Activities which include walking are graded based on fitness level needed for that activity into 5 categories. These are the grades given by the Irish National Trails Office to walks. Please confirm you have attained that level of fitness before booking an activity.
|LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY|
|1 Multi Access||Flat smooth trail suitable for all people, including those with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, for older people, visually impaired and those on crutches|
|2 Easy||Be able to walk on smooth surfaces, with some gentle slopes and family groups. Footwear must be enclosed outdoor footwear|
|3 Moderate||A reasonable level of fitness is required with Walking Shoes and clothing. There may some uphill climbing off road where the ground is rough.|
|4 Strenuous||Physically demanding trails which have some steep climbs for long periods (over 1 hour). A high level of fitness is required as well as specific walking shoes and clothing.|
|5 Very Difficult||Need to be very fit and a competent mountain walker with experience. The terrain may be variable and rough underfoot.|
