Start planning your summer holiday with details of the Blue Flag Beaches awards of 2021. The Blue Flag Scheme for beaches and Marinas is operated by an Taisce, the National Trust for Ireland, on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Blue Flag is one of the most recognised eco-labels and in 2021 Ireland had 83 Blue Flag Beaches and 10 marinas
Beaches and marinas must comply with specific water quality safety, beach management, environmental education and information provision. The seawater must comply with the 2006 EU Bathing Standards Directive. A beach may lose the Blue Flag during a summer season if it does not continue to meet the required standards and can apply for it again for the following year. The bathing season is considered to be June 1st to September 1st.
